Persona is a projection.
Image is a trick of the light.
It all depends on how you turn the glass.
Storytellers know how to weave fantasy worlds and spin epic tales.
So why is telling our own stories on social media so hard?
This is a once-in-lifetime experience offers creatives at any point in their journey a glimpse at their own radiance and how they project it out into the world.
First, we turn inward to reacquaint ourselves with our inner light. Through our online course on archetypes, aesthetics, and healing the wounded artist, we gain much-needed clarity.
Next, we turn our light outward. We'll gather in a stunning workshop space to revamp your socials, aesthetics, and partake in a low-key photography session.
Join our award-winning writers and renowned photographer for a retreat in New York City this fall to sharpen your focus, energize your brand, and amplify your reach.

MEET THE FACULTY

Sarah Lemon
Sarah Nicole Lemon has lived too many lives for her years and has the skills, scars, and stories that go with it. She is the mother of four wild children, a VP of Brand & Social Media, & Co-Founder of Ilios Forge, a private branding agency for artists & creative industries. Her debut adult fantasy will be published by Harper Voyager in Fall 2025.

S. Jae-Jones
S. Jae-Jones (called JJ) is an artist, an adrenaline junkie, and the New York Times bestselling author of the Wintersong duology and the Guardians of Dawn series. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she now lives on the wrong coast, where she can’t believe she has to deal with winter every year. When not writing, JJ can be found working toward her next black belt degree in taekwondo, being run ragged by her twin dogs, Castor and Pollux, or indulging in her favorite hobby — collecting more hobbies.

Brooke Light
Brooke Light is the viral TikTok photographer behind Moody Mini sessions. Her work has been featured on USA Today, and in Scary Mommy, Yahoo!, Upworthy, and The Independent. She is most known for her editorial portrait style, but also has years of experience as aesthetics and product photographer under her belt.

The Curriculum
Three weeks before the retreat, you'll attend a series of online classes led by the co-founders of social media branding company Ilios Forge, Sarah and JJ, and moderated by Andrea. In these class, we'll cover all aspects of "branding," including appeal, persona, expression, and aesthetics. Then, you'll complete your own artist brand profile before you jet off to NYC for an immersive workshop with all faculty members and a private portrait and product photo session with Brooke.

The Schedule
The workshop kicks off the morning of Friday, September 20th in a spacious, boho loft in Brooklyn. Throughout the weekend, you'll have plenty of time and space to work with our faculty on decoding your unique artist brand while workshopping everything from your Instagram bio to overall social media aesthetics. You'll also participate in a private 1:1 photo session, tailored to your brand, and leave the retreat with a 10-photo package to use on your site and socials.

The Space
Sleeping arrangements are on your own wherever you feel most comfortable in the city, for as long as you'd like. Each morning, you'll join us at the loft for a day of workshops, discussion, photos, and snacks. The evenings are yours to explore NYC as you please. What To Expect

Uncover Your Authentic Brand
In August, you'll join Lemon, JJ, and Andrea for a one-of-its-kind online course on social media branding for the artist. This intimate, interactive course includes three units: ethos and overview, persona and appeal, expression and aesthetic. If you can't make a class, no stress. Classes are recorded, and you can always send in your questions.
When you've completed the course, you'll receive an artist branding template. Using what you've learned, you'll fill out your template to clarify your brand and particular aesthetic.
The best part? It's fun. We'll dive into art movements, color palettes, archetypes, and more to unearth who you are and what you have to say to the world.

Align Your Values, Vision & Aesthetics
This is where the magic happens. You'll hand over your completed artist brand template to Brooke, who will get to work on curating the perfect mini photoshoot for you as an artist and your books or products (if you have them).
Then, you'll join Lemon, JJ, Andrea, and Brooke in Brooklyn, NYC for a weekend-long workshop in a spacious boho loft with lots of natural light. Our workshop will go from 9-5, and there is plenty of space for discussion, working on social media profiles and websites, and chatting with the faculty. Meanwhile, you'll head off to a separate, private area of the loft to take your author/brand photos.
While we know getting in front of the camera can be anxiety-inducing, we also know how critical it is to have a small portfolio of brand and portrait photos that you can pull from at any time, and that you know align with your work and values. That's why we've chosen Brooke—there's no other photographer in the world that's as warm and helpful as she is.
You'll leave the retreat experience with 10 fully edited digital photos, your completed brand template, and hands-on advice from marketing experts.
